Campaign Description
"You're off the edge of the map, mate. Here there be monsters!"
--Captain Barbossa, PotC: Curse of the Black Pearl

This is a D&D (v 3.5) campaign set in the world of Eberrron where I will be running the Savage Tide Adventure Path. Players will start at 1st level. They can be any standard race in the DMG, and PC races from the Eberron Campaign Setting book (changeling, kalashtar, shifters, and warforged), and I will allow dragonmarked characters (see campaign messages for a table of Houses-->Races-->mark).

Characters will use the Point Buy system on page 169 of the DMG. You will start off with 32 points (High-powered campaign)

Point costs are as follows: 9-14 cost 1pt/pt above 8, 15 costs 8 pts, 16 costs 10 pts, 17 costs 13 points, 18 costs 16 points

(then add/subtract racial ability score modifiers, if any)

Classes can be standard, and artificer from the ECS, as well as classes from WoTC supplements on a case-by-case basis.
(I have already approved the swashbuckler from The Complete Warrior). I may also consider racial variants of standard classes, like the changeling rogue variants. Contact me first before applying.

PrC's when we get there,I will decide on a case-by-case basis.

Here are some questions and a point to consider when developing a character's backstory and motivations:

The Last War: The Treaty of Thronehold was signed two years ago, and the world is recovering from the war, even Sasserine, (the starting city) which was just liberated after a century of oppression under the thumb of a group of pirates/privateers known as the Sea Princes.

1) How did the Last War affect the character?
(Did he/she lose loved ones, a home? Did he/she fight in the War?)
2) Does the character have a dragonmark, and if so, what is his/her relationship to the house?
3) What are the character's relegious beliefs, and how committed is the character to his relegion?
4) Does the character have any enemies, and if so, how did the character come by them?
5) Does the character have any old friends?
6) How did the character come to their alignment?
7) How did the character come to their class? What does this class mean for the character?
8) Does the character have any long-term, personal goals?

I will only be accepting four player characters, so please give me a good backstory or concept.

Posting Rate: I will ask for at minimum a posting rate of every other day with the exception of weekends...and of course when you are waiting for me after the end of a scene or at an appropriate cliffhanger.

I have four players currently. Some people are in a queue if I accept more, or characters die and do not want to continue. PM me a concept if you wish to be added to the waitng list. Suggestion: Answering the questions above will help.

Timeline
280YK
Sasserine is founded by pilgrims from Khorvaire. After the cleric Sasserine, a devotee of the Sovereign of Light and Darkness or some say Vol, dies in defeating the island's draconic guardian, her lover Teraknian establishes the city in her name, establishing a line of rulers that continues over the next six centuries.
884YK
Orren Teraknian takes up rulership of Sasserine. A devotee of Dol Dorn who sees no room for shades of grey in his faith, he discredits the Church of Aureon and strips it of its power, beginning an iron rule that quickly grew unbearable for many of the city's citizens.
888YK
Driven to desperation under Orren's rule, citizens rise up in revolt as a fleet of ships from the Principalities to the north arrives to conquer the city. Rather than give up any of Sasserine's rich revenues in taxes to the mainland, they conceal all records of the city's existence.
894YK
On the mainland, King Jarot dies. The Kingdom of Galifar splinters into warring nations and the Last War begins. The Lhazaar Principalities declare their long-standing agreements with the Kingdom of Galifar void and cut off diplomatic ties with the mainland. Over the next ten years, the Principalities devolve into independent princedoms whose relations with each other are shaky at best and outright hostile at worst. Sasserine becomes a political bargaining chip, its rulership traded between princedoms dozens of times, with each new set of governors seeking to strip as many of its resources as possible before it falls out of their hands. The city becomes a shadow of its former self, but the spirit of its citizens remains intact.
995YK
Unknown Assassins slay the city's current governors as well as Prince Uklonor, ruler of the Diresharks on Questor Isle, under whose governance Sasserine is held. Sasserine quickly claims independence, and Prince Kolberkon, taking over rulership of the Diresharks, formally declines to dispute the claim. Prince Ryger of Regalport, nominal leader of the Principalities, acknowledges Sasserine's independence.
996YK
On the mainland, the Treaty of Thronehold marks the end of the Last War, officially acknowledging the Lhazaar Principalities as an independent nation.
998YK
Present day. In the wake of the Sea Princes' rule and the Last War, Sasserine has been rebuilt with astonishing success into a viable and successful city-state.
Early Spring, 998YK
Defying the Thronehold Treaty, Shroud's Cannith Masters are 'punished'/'assassinated' and their hidden forgehold is forcibly shut down. Shroud is left for dead.
Summer or Early Fall, 998YK
Shroud 'awakens' to find himself in Sasserine. He startles the dwarven (or gnome) artificer who reboots the warforged in a shanty on the docks. Before he can react, the artificer is gone.
Mid-Fall (Sypheros), 998YK
Mercenaries in the employ of Lavinia Vanderboren slaughter a would be thieves' guild calling themselves the Lotus Dragons
9-11 Aryth, 998YK
Events of Kraken's Cove and Bullywug Gambit. First evidence of the shadow pearls. The Sea Wolves stop the Crimson Fleet's retaliation against Lavinia Vanderboren
3 Vult, 998 YK
