It's the year 2100. Humans have colonized the solar system. Humans struggle for control of Mars. Nanotechnology has transformed life on Earth forever, and gene-enhanced humans share the world with artificial intelligences and robotic cybershells, sentient computers and artificial "bioroids" demanding human rights. Most prosper. For others it is a boulevard of broken dreams...
Campaign Description
Introduction:
Normally Transhuman Space uses GURPS 3e rules. However, I will be using the HERO system for this game. This does mean a lot of legwork on my part to translate equipment to a HERO format, but it is not too hard and HERO is flexible enough that viable characters and concepts can be fleshed out. Campaign Tone: Morality: Gray. Transhuman Space is gritty and survival sometimes outweighs moral judgment in the depths of space. Realism: THS offers a very logical technological progression for the next century. This would not be space opera or cyberpunk. However, it does offer many options. Outlook and Seriousness: Mostly serious, but even serious tones need to be broken up with some light-heartedness once in a while. Character Building Guidelines: Heroic 125 Base Points 100 Disadvantages 225 Total Character Points possible Normal Maximum on Characteristics 50 Active Points, OCV/DCV max 9, spd max 4, skill rolls 14- def/rdef 10/10 (though this will probably be equipment dependant) use Everyman Hard SF (pg 40 Star Hero) EC, MPPs are acceptable but within reason and tight, logical groups VPPs I am a very wary of unless you have a good sell. Additional Information Characters will be field agents of some sort working for one of the large international corporations, all of whom are scrambling to do something (whether good or bad) about the recent tragedy/terrorist attack in Rotterdam At some point I will begin a glossary. I will be drawing ideas mostly from Fifth Wave and Broken Dreams, but I am hoping that we will do some adventures in the rest of the solar system. I am definitely willing to work with players who are interested in creaing infomorphs, bioroids or other transhuman entities. I believe a lot of the fun will be in creating and defining characters and their "powers". While this will not be anime-ish, one place for inspiration in character concepts from Cowboy Beebop.
Quotes
"You see, Sylvie, you never thought I'd amount to anything. Here's Bu thwarting evil!"
-Bu James waiting to gank a bad guy, Ep1
"[Making a decision to stop the limousine] was a challenging task; my processor could have spent much time braking down the situation and analyzing the best course which to take. This conglomerated an estimated 300,042,876,799 processes in order to yield a result. Needless to say, I did not have a half an hour to compute. So, I used the major principals and overall motivation behind my design and purpose at the GRA."
Drone explaining his actions to GRA technicians, Ep1
A dead human found with his alleged bioroid victim, who just happened to be a joygirl...its media chow.
--Doc Rembrandt, private conversation, Ep2
"The reporters were right about one thing; there was an animal roaming the Vrijstaad. And he has been put down."
Doc Rembrandt, private musing, Ep2
"At least that took care of the itch," he remarks to Boris, "No more pick-a-nick baskets for you, big guy. And you know what? I never liked you anyway." He thinks one of the buttons must have set off the hidden gun that shot the ursoid in the head. "Not as smart as the average bear, were ya? I don't know what Engels saw in you, I really don't."
Bu James, Ep4
--{Madison Haley, you're in a bit of a bind.}-- he begins, --{You're trapped on a dying space station inhabited by any number of hunger-crazed cannibals...not to mention me, who you tried to kill, and Jack, who's only too happy to kill you where you stand.}-- There is not a hint of humor in his voice. Not a trace of irony.
--{You're locked in a Mexican standoff that you can't possibly hope to survive. No two ways about it, Maddy. You're in the deepest kind of shit.}-- Charles "Eli" Buckner, Vandegrift Station
t-7:27 Seems that you and your 'partner' made of mess of things up here -- Margaret Mertens, Special Envoy IBT.oO(Rather looks like we cleaned up a mess to me, bakkie. XXX fomulas get stolen, weaponized, possibly stolen again, and used on a civilian population. All hell breaks loose on XXX station, and you ninnies send me up there with fuckall for intel. I find the place swarming with zombies, monkies, and nervy kiwis with itchy trigger--and still manage to come out in more or less one piece with the information to save the world. AND I managed to clean up the evidence with a nuclear blast. I'd say we did pretty fucking well.) Thoughts by Charlie Buckner during his debriefing...Post-attack, Day +1
